Getting sours in Galveston has never been that easy. Getting the only sour mash brewery’s beer in Texas in Galveston is a treat to say the least. Once I found out that Blue Owl was available at one of my favorite local pubs, I knew this would always be my go-to beer.
About a week ago, I tried my first Blue Owl offering at Blues Brothers called Van Dayum! The sour red is a quintessential Flemish ale. This time around, I saw Van Dayum! was gone and Dapper Devil had replaced it on the tap list. Similar to a lambic, this raspberry sour is highly carbonated and so crisp, it finishes cleaner than any other sour I’ve ever enjoyed.
What I find so interesting about this beer is the high alcohol content that is deceptive throughout. This drinks very much like a session sour, yet is 8.5% ABV, which is unbelievably high for a sour beer. Blue Owl has perfected the art of sour mashing and is at the forefront of a new revolution in craft beer. I can’t wait to see what else is going to be released next from these masters of sour mashing.
