The new movement in craft beer is nitro. The first beer I’ve ever seen at my local, Galveston Island Brewing, is this Chocolate Extra Stout.
When you first look at it, you immediately think Guinness. The cascading, dark color, foamy head; it all adds up to a delicious stout that puts Guinness to shame.
Like other stouts, the roasted malt flavor is strong and aromatic. The infusion of chocolate flavor creates a beer that has a wonderful dark chocolate taste. The chocolate sweetness through the middle finishes with a slight bitterness that is palette pleasing.
It is unlike any other beer that Galveston Island Brewing has produced. They’ve introduced some stellar porters, but this stout is beautifully executed and the taste beats any other dark beer they have produced. I can’t wait to have this beer again before it Texas winter starts to fade away.
