The beer of the week is a beer we highlighted (albeit briefly) in our Sunday Funday article earlier this week. No Label Brewing Company’s Perpetual Peace wee heavy is a limited release within the Katy brewery’s Off Label series.
Coming in at 11.6% ABV, this beer is one of those offerings that is best enjoyed over a bit of time. This wee heavy is a scotch ale that is bourbon barrel-aged in Old Forester barrels over a five month period. This allows the bourbon and oak flavor to resonate throughout the entire body of the beer.
The brew has a wonderfully smooth caramel sweetness from the malt. You should taste vanilla notes throughout the entire body in addition to the toffee before finishing very mellow. Overall, it’s a complex beer with several different flavors that come through. Ideally you should be drinking this beer at around 45-50 degrees in a thistle glass. It was served in a pint glass at my destination, but it certainly didn’t ruin the flavor of the brew. This is an absolutely amazing beer that will be gone soon, so if you get a chance to buy it, grab a bomber or two.
