Oktoberfest season is in full swing in my house. Between Karbachtoberfest from last week and Real Ale Oktoberfest from the week before, we have been doing the Texas tour for marzenbiers.
This week, Saint Arnold Oktoberfest is up to bat. I’ve been enjoying this beer for about 10 years now and it’s become a seasonal institution for me and my friends. Granted, I still fancy the German Oktoberfest beers as the holy grail, but Saint Arnold’s is the best of the Texas bunch I’ve had.
Amber in color, this beer has a sweet flavor that leaves a bit of a caramel malt taste. To me, this beer is perfect to drink with any pork product (what isn’t?). Usually, German kielbasa or pork loin brings out the caramel flavor and makes the beer pop.
Like all Saint Arnold beer, it is available throughout most of the state until about the end of October when Christmas Ale starts becoming available. Over the years, Saint Arnold has grown exponentially and has become a staple of the Texas beer scene.
