One of the best beer selections in the city of Houston isn’t a huge big-box location or an enormous grocery store. It’s a small little non-descript corner store off of Richmond between Midtown and Montrose.
D&Q Beer Station is loaded with different beers from all over the country. If it’s sold in the Houston area, they have it. In fact, two beers I’ve been hunting for (unsuccessfully, mind you) were Texian Black Jesus and Goliad Watermelon Gose. They had it in plentiful supply.
What made me so happy was the section of Texas beer that was extensive and in the cooler. Houston favorites like Saint Arnold and Karbach were in there, but there were also choices like Busted Sandal from San Antonio and 4th Tap from Austin.
Ultimately, my choices for the day were Live Oak Pilz (which we drank too fast to get into the picture), 4th Tap Renewal Tamarind Wheat Ale, Goliad Watermelon Gose, Busted Sandal Slippery Rock IPA, and Texian Black Jesus Tart Cherry Sour. Since I bought the beer before a pool party, the Live Oak Pilz was downed quickly. I was happy, though, to keep the rest of it and enjoy it throughout the week.
If you’re looking for an alternative to the large liquor store king, Spec’s, this is the shining star in the Houston area. Make a visit and try to walk out without buying something. I doubt you’ll make it outside without at least a bomber or two.
