Sometimes, it’s good to have my day job. For instance, our company abides by the Federal Reserve holiday schedule, so that means I get Martin Luther King Jr. day off today. Since it means I get a three-day weekend, I needed to make sure to have enough “supplies” to last me through the weekend (and then some).
I decided to make a beer run to the Bay Colony H-E-B store in League City to pick up some brews. Turns out, there were quite a few options that sounded good, so I picked up all of the items that looked delicious.
I’ve been on a bit of a pale ale and stout kick lately, so that pretty much dominated my selection. The Uncle Billy’s Barton Springs pale ale and Oasis Meta Modern session IPA were two favorites I’ve enjoyed in the past. However, the 3 Nations GPA pale ale is one that came highly recommended by the folks at Flying Saucer Houston. This beer hits the spot with a perfect level of bitterness and citrus flavor.
For my stouts, I went with an old favorite in Saint Arnold Winter Stout and a beer I’ve never had in No Label Elda M. milk stout. The Elda M. has a coffee malt flavor that was perfect to drink as it cooled off over the weekend.
Finally, I picked up a bomber of Lone Pint Yellow Rose, one of the best IPA’s made in Texas and Strange Land’s Atholl Brose Scotch ale. After enjoying the delicious No Label Perpetual Peace a while back, I wanted to see if Strange Land wee heavy can match it in quality. I’ll let you guys know on Friday for my Beer of the Week article.
