The problem with a lot of fruit beers being made today is they taste almost exactly like a Jolly Rancher. I’m not a fan of beers that end up not tasting less like beer due to the addition of too much extract. It seems like real peaches were used in this beer due to the sour fermented fruit flavor, but I can’t confirm. Even if extract flavoring was used in this beer, Brazos Valley Brewing’s Millions of Peaches wit is still a terrific brew.
The wit is always popular this time of year as it’s one of the lightest, most refreshing beer styles. Honestly though, the Brenham brewery’s release of the beer flew under the radar. Brazos Valley’s social media presence for releases is always a little muted, so I wished this beer had seen a little more buzz coming out.
The truth is, if you can find it, order it. The peaches are evident on the nose and your palette will appreciate you. It’s one of the sweeter beers, so if you’re not a fan of the sweet flavoring, this might not be for you. In addition to the peach flavor, I seemed to get some banana flavor from the yeast that made it seem more like a hefeweizen.
Ultimately, this beer is becoming harder to find, so I was lucky to get a hold of this small batch seasonal release. If you see Brazos Valley’s Millions of Peaches on tap, go ahead and order it. If you like subtle sour flavor, this is for you. If you like the taste of sweet, juicy peaches, then you’ll love this. I personally loved this brew and hope you do too.
