Honestly, the first time I tried Copperhead Brewery’s beers from Conroe, I was sort of underwhelmed. I had Striker IPA about three months ago at Hop Scholar up in Spring and was sort of indifferent toward the beer. It was hoppy, but there was nothing that stood out about the beer. I chalked it up as a beer that just wasn’t to my taste, especially considering I’ve heard from plenty of people who love it.
However, my opinion about Copperhead was completely changed for the better when I tried their Belgian dark strong brew, Medusa. For such a strong beer, it drank so smooth and comfortably. Fortunately, Seasons Gourmet Food & Grocery served it in a pint, so getting the extra few ounces compared to a snifter pour was a pleasant perk.
First off, I’ve never seen the beer outside of their taproom in Conroe, so finding it in Galveston was huge. Plus, the flavor of raisins and sweet candy sugar made a sweets fanatic like myself very happy. After doing a little research, I also noticed that the brewery is starting to bottle this beer and will be selling it in four-packs soon. I’m betting it’s because more people like myself have the same reaction – one of pure delight!
Once this beer starts being packaged, it’s safe to say that it’ll be flying off of the shelves. Hopefully it’ll be stocked way down south in Galveston to keep me happy. Until then, I’ll just be enjoying it on tap until the keg is floated.
