I’m sure this is an easy choice for beer of the week, but I’m not sure there is somebody more thrilled about the canning of this beer than me. The bottom line is there is no better hefeweizen distributed to the Houston-area than this perfect beer.
This is a beer that is always a go-to for me anytime I visit a place like Cedar Creek Bar in the Houston Heights. Any area that has a large outdoor seating area that gives off a community friendship vibe needs a solid, refreshing session beer to compliment it. Live Oak Hefeweizen has always been that beer to me.
Now that it’s available in cans, this makes it so much easier to drink at home. Before, I used to purchase two or three 64 ounce growlers to enjoy at the house and those would be gone in two days with my wife and I drinking these non-stop. Now, I can purchase a case and enjoy this over a much longer timeframe.
Living in Galveston, I enjoy anything that can allow me to drink outside. At 5.3% ABV, it’s a refreshingly light beer that thrives due to its sweet flavor. The typical banana and clove flavor associated with most hefeweizens is evident, but there is a vanilla sweetness that takes it to a new level. Even my dad (who NEVER drinks craft beer) enjoyed the flavor from this beer. It’s a beer for everybody and probably the one that best represents Texas in the warmer months.
Now that it’s much more readily available, you should really grab a six-pack and judge for yourself. Chances are, you’ve had this on draft and your expectations will be high. I can assure you the flavor is not lost in the canning process and it is just as amazing as you’ve come to expect.
