Every now and then, I get a chance to talk with the folks behind the scenes at a brewery. Back in March, I made my first trip out to Spindletap Brewery and got a chance to meet Cameron, one of the founding members of the brewery. After talking for a bit, he mentioned two beers they were working on: a Russian Imperial Stout and this gem, Hop Gusher IPA. We got a chance to sample both. At the time, the stout seemed to still need more time to age and mature as it still lacked the taste necessary for it to be ready for commercial release, but even drinking an uncarbonated sample of the Hop Gusher was good enough for me me to realize how wonderful this beer was going to be.
The finished product is even better. With a blend of Citra, Mosaic, and Amarillo hops, it’s a dynamite IPA offering that can only improve the Houston scene. With a citrus flavor and a hint of pine, it’s a refreshing IPA that won’t knock you down with too much bitterness. Plus, at 6.5% ABV, it’s a brew that you can enjoy with friends for a while without feeling too tipsy at the end. It’s my favorite Spindletap brew and one that I’ll order anytime I see on tap. Fortunately, it was available when I went to Underdogs Pub in Houston for my best friend’s birthday. With so many new accounts being added, you should find this at your favorite watering hole in Houston soon.
