Having a fridge full of growlers and crowlers from Texas Beer Refinery is a good problem to have. The very first crowler I grabbed was the Cucumber Gose, which is the absolute best gose being made in the Greater Houston area right now.
When I say it’s the best, I’m not kidding. There is not another that I’ve had over the last several years that approaches their Cucumber Gose. I’ve had friends tell me about TBR’s Tamarindo Gose, but I haven’t tried it to give it an honest comparison.
What I love about this beer is the saltiness without feeling like I just drank out of the Gulf of Mexico. Instead of using tart grapefruit in the fermenter, TBR chose to use fresh cucumber. If you’ve ever had cucumber water, you know the cucumber adds a subtle, refreshing flavor to an otherwise enjoyable drink. It’s not very sweet or tart, but it gives it a slight lime flavor.
I don’t know if the beer has the same detoxifying characteristics that cucumber water does. All I know is I can’t get enough of this stuff. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings to see it stick around all summer long.
