When I found out that Texadelphia closed down a few years back and a bar was replacing it in that space, I had mixed feelings. In fact, I never even thought about visiting the bar because there’s a ton of other bars I frequent within a 1-2 mile radius. However, one of my best friends told me about their amazing craft beer selection, both on draft and in cans and bottles. Plus, there are 30 televisions, so I wanted to see if this would be a good place to watch NFL Sunday Ticket next season. What I found was a tremendous bar with a wide selection of Texas craft beer and some of the best bar food around.
The Texas craft beer selection is as impressive as I’ve ever seen with several beers available that I’ve never seen in the Houston area. One of the most noticeable beers on the menu that is rare in Houston is Lakewood Brewing’s Hopochondria session IPA. Obviously, that was my first choice since it is a lower ABV beer and I had already enjoyed a few beers earlier at Saint Arnold’s brewery. What I loved about Hopochondria was the citrus and earthy flavor of the beer that was very hoppy, despite being only 4.6% ABV.
They seem to have a pretty standard and set selection of regular beers in bottles and cans with a few off-menu items that are either seasonal or specialty items. One of the off-menu items was Saint Arnold Bishop’s Barrel 16, for example. However, the tap list seems to have some beers that appear to be permanent fixtures and others that rotate. Live Oak Hefeweizen and Independence Stash IPA both seem like beers that are permanent, while more limited beers like Buffalo Bayou Big Black Cowbell seem like rotators on the list.
The space itself is wonderful. There is a large bar area as well as all of the TVs I mentioned. When we visited, the Rose Bowl game was on and there were plenty focused on the game, some dedicated to their tap menu and off-menu beers, and others geared toward other sports and channels. It seems like a perfect sports bar that has a great beer menu.
Plus, the food menu is something to envy for the sports fan. My favorite item is the mac & cheese burger. Burger. Bacon. Cheese galore. It’s my personal heaven, especially for someone with a gutter palate like myself. The next time I visit, I want to try out their brew pretzels since their beer cheese dip is made with Real Ale Hans Pils.
Really, Houston scored with Beer Market Co and more people need to be aware of how great it is, not only for the Texas craft beer selection, but for the food as well. You can count on us being there frequently during sporting events and pretty much anytime we’re inside the loop.
