One of the hottest areas for craft brewery growth is the Greater Houston area. The Houston landscape for breweries is about to grow rapidly over the next few months with several brewery openings slated for the spring. To get you ready for the taproom openings and new places to visit, we’re suggesting these three breweries to put on your radar.
BAKFISH Brewing Company
BAKFISH Brewing Company is Pearland’s first craft brewery slated to open. Most people in the area have needed to travel down to Alvin or to Dickinson visit a brewery, but now have their own to visit. With a soft opening slated to take place the week of March 15th, the brewery is ready to introduce themselves to the area and give the southeast Houston area another reason to enjoy some new craft beer.
With five staple beers, the brewery will be out to serve brews that can meet the demands of different types of beer drinkers. From the lighter options of a Belgian-inspired Texas Blonde and a Belgian Wit to the darker option of a Brown Porter to the hoppier options of their IPA and Double IPA, they have a little bit of everything for everybody.
No food is planned for the taproom at this time because the brewery is focused on making well-executed beers that will appeal to the masses. Located on FM 518 near Dixie Farm Rd, the brewery is located right on the border of Pearland and Friendswood.

Saloon Door Brewing Company
Saloon Door Brewing has been in the works for quite a while. You might have heard of a brewery called Southern Draw that was slated to open in Webster. This is the same brewery, but with a new (and better, in our opinion) name.
Very little is available about the brewery online outside of what is posted on their Facebook page, but they have started brewing and are perfecting batches on their brew system. Their first brew was a Cream Ale that is designed to be a session beer and one of their flagship beers.
Soft openings are slated for mid to late March with a full opening of the brewery in April. Recently, they announced they were going to be hiring bartenders and servers for the brewery. With a taproom that will most likely be fairly large, this brewery located near Interstate 45 South and NASA Road 1 Bypass is in an ideal spot to be another southeast Houston brewery landmark.

Under The Radar Brewery
The inner loop new brewery scene hasn’t seen many openings over the past few years as a large number of breweries have opened in the surrounding suburbs. However, it’s leaving the inner loopers few taproom options outside of Saint Arnold, 8th Wonder and Buffalo Bayou. Fortunately, that is about to change with Under the Radar Brewery opening in the Midtown area.
The southeast area of Midtown has recently seen a revival making it a hotspot for beer lovers. Axelrad Beer Garden has been a hit since opening late last year and Under the Radar is going to be a close neighbor making it a great place for a beer crawl between the two locations.
Like the name implies, everything about Under the Radar has been fairly quiet. They’ve been making test batches, preparing their beer garden, and setting up the taproom. It seems like they’re just in a holding pattern until all of their permits are cleared with the city. Once that is finished, it seems they wouldn’t need too much more to open their doors.
