Why do those girl scouts always have to wait outside of grocery stores, ready to prey on the weak? Dammit, I AM the weak. I have to buy something from them anytime I have cash and that usually involves buying boxes of Thin Mints and Samoas (no, they will never be called Caramel De-lites).
As I bought some this year to stock the freezer (if you don’t freeze your Thin Mints, you’re not doing it right), I wondered how this would taste paired with a beer. Then, I go on social media and it seems like EVERYBODY is doing a girl scout cookie flight pairing. I guess it’s worth trying…after all, some of my favorite bars did this and they can’t be wrong. Right?
It turns out that as long as I’m pairing the right beer with the right cookie, I’m good. So far, the best pairing I’ve had is 903 Brewers’ Sasquatch Imperial Chocolate Milk Stout with Thin Mints. Grown up milk and cookies is what I call it. The cocoa nibs that are added to the beer pop when you’re washing a cookie down with it. It makes the taste much more rich and full-bodied.
The mint flavor of the cookie intensifies due to the addition of milk sugar of the beer. And even though the beer is a whopping 10.5% ABV, it’s masked well by the subtle bitterness of the dark chocolate flavor. Add the mint chocolate coating found on the cookie and you get a wonderfully complex chocolate explosion. If you get a chance to try them together, do it! You’ll probably stock up on Thin Mints and Sasquatch to make it until summer.
