It was dinner time and I was thirsty. Simple as that. I’m not a vegetarian, but my wife is, so I’ve learned to love certain dishes that both of us can enjoy at the same time. This is one of those dishes that needs something perfect to pair with it.
The only decision to make was what beer to choose. I had several bombers sitting in the fridge as well as a few other options that I knew weren’t going to pair well – chocolate stouts, porters, etc.
Ultimately, I needed something hoppy to pair with the sodium in the soy sauce from the stir fry. Out of the beers I had available, I figured Lone Pint 667: Neighbor of the Beast American IPA would be a good option.
This beer has a distinct grapefruit flavor and the tartness tends to balance well with the salty flavor in the stir fry. Plus, any blandness of the rice is given flavor with the slightly bitter finish of the beer.
In a way, I wish I was enjoying a Yellow Rose instead of a 667, but this beer’s intense citrus flavor was a perfect compliment to the stir fry.
