Texans like myself have a tendency to bitch and moan when the temperature falls below about 50 degrees, so when this rare phenomena occurs, I need a full bodied beer to take my mind off of the “cold”. Enter Four Corners Block Party Robust Porter.
A British pint glass on a cool winter’s mid-afternoon just feels right, doesn’t it? After pouring this beauty, you can see the dark brown chocolatey color which always makes me think of a crisp London morning, not the Texas afternoon that was somehow 15 degrees cooler than London. Upon first sniff, you can really smell the roasted malt and you immediately think of a rich coffee from the northwest U.S.
Diving right in, my first taste gives way to a dark chocolate slight bitterness that was more prevalent than I imagine. However, my second taste satisfies my palate. Four Corners nails the rich coffee porter taste for which I was longing.
One of the common misconceptions about a dark porter is that it is a high alcohol content beer. Quite the contrary as this beer is only a 5.7% ABV beer that is satisfying and won’t leave you searching for your Uber app (assuming you only drink one). This outstanding selection from Four Corners will certainly cause me to take a closer look at their other offerings.
