Goliad Brewing Company is a fairly new player in the Texas craft brewing scene, but has established themselves with an aggressive distribution plan throughout much of the state, which benefits craft brew lovers like us.
One of their more popular standouts is the Presidio La Bahia Black Hefeweizen. Presidio La Bahia gets its name from one of the most recognizable landmarks in the South Texas town of Goliad. It was used as a fort constructed by the Spanish army during some of the most important battles during the Texas independence movement in the 1800’s.
The beer itself is unique as you can taste notes from a chocolate stout, but has the qualities that a normal hefeweizen possesses such as the immediate banana flavor and spicy clove. It has a very dark appearance, which can be intimidating for the beer novice, but is a smooth beer that has a nice sweet finish.
The beer is 4.7% ABV ; a nice session beer that can be enjoyed with friends. At 10 IBU, it should not leave a bitter aftertaste. It’s worth a buy and is regularly available throughout a large part of the state at various beer locations, liquor stores, and gas stations. Current known locations include the greater Houston area, Corpus Christi area, South Texas, Austin area, and the San Antonio area.
