Nutmeg…a whole lotta nutmeg. That was the response my wife gave me when she took her first drink of this beer. I can’t say that I disagree with that statement, but that doesn’t take away from the holiday cheer this brew brings.
One of the biggest mistakes I made was not drinking it during a huge holiday feast as this would have been the PERFECT beer for gorging on turkey, ham, and all the fixin’s.
As it was, I enjoyed it on a bleak, cloudy day in the middle of winter. Rogness Brewery says this beer was inspired by an oatmeal raisin cookie and this couldn’t be more spot-on. Very much a dessert beer, this mahogany-colored beer can surprise you after finishing it. At 9.6% ABV, it is a high alcohol-content beer that can sneak up on you after finishing the full 22 ounces.
Overall, you need to like beers that are heavy in spices to enjoy this beer. The nutmeg was a bit overpowering for my taste, but it still was delicious down to the bottom of the bomber.
