Granted, we weren’t able to make the grand opening the day before, we were still able to enjoy Yard House in Friendswood for the first time on Sunday.
The draw to this place is the beer selection. With an unbelievable tap list and a separate menu for the beers classified by beer type, it is a haven for anybody wanting to sample different beers. A bit of warning, the price is steep. For two entrees and four beers total, the tab came to $61. With each pint priced at $6.75 and up, it will put a dent in your pocketbook.
To start out, my wife and I each got a Cedar Creek Dankosaurus. This IPA isn’t very easy to find on tap most places we’ve visited, so this was a welcome treat. It was a perfect beer to start a football Sunday as it is very dank in scent, but not an overpowering brew. Sessionable, it is a citrusy and very earthy flavored beer.
After the first beer, we got our meal and ordered our second beer of the day. My wife went with the tried and true (512) Pecan Porter, which is a Texas icon. My choice was Rogness Hefeweizen. This was the first time I’ve ever seen this brew on draught in the Houston area as it’s always available in bombers only. The beer mixed well with the ham and pineapple pizza I ordered as the banana and clove flavor blended with the sweet flavor of the pineapple.
One bit of criticism I have relates to the location and the beer selection. I was surprised that they did not keep any of the local beers from Texas Beer Refinery or Galveston Bay Beer on draught. It seems only natural that this place would want to keep some of the local brews available for the clientele.
Overall, this is a great place to enjoy some great food and terrific beer. However, there are much more affordable options out there that have just as good of a selection of beer and food choices just as good as Yard House.
